Esthetician & Skin Care Products > Requirements for becoming a Medical Aesthetician in Texas?

I've been looking for hours online, and keep getting conflicting answers on the subject. Is it more hours? Training? If it is more hours, what schools offer the extra training?

There are no requirements simply because the title "medical esthetician" is not legally recognized by any governing body in TX. Programs - good and bad - have sprung up across the country offering "certification." Ask them 2 questions: 1) who has certified their course; 2) What states recognize the title "medical esthetician". And BTW, a doctor cannot decide to call you that. It jeopardizes his medical license and your esthetician license.

I've seen TX Board of Cosmetology website which covers several scopes of practice issues. Texas (unlike several other states) does not prohibit the use of the term "Medical Esthetician". This is noted in the FAQs. That being said, the state does not have an advanced license for ME. One of the most important things to know is that in TX, a physician cannot delegate to an esthetician. The esthetician is also not under the physician's license.

Thanks everyone for providing input. I've been asking this while I was still in school but I always get vague answers.

gm, I believe there is no prohibition in using the term "Medical Esthetician" as it is not stated in (other) state regulations. But I think that TX doesn't have an advanced license for ME. In TX, MDs cannot delegate medical procedures to estys, therefore estys aren't under an MD's license.

Welcome to the esthetic industry! Regulations are not clear, there are conflicts between boards, and there are no national standards
