Physician Clinical Exchange > Dermaroller Tx

Any experience using Dermaroller? Is it safe and effective? What are the advantages and disadvantages as opposed to using other skin treatments?

I've heard nothing but good things about it from my colleagues. An advantage is that you can use it on any part of your body not just your face. Just remember not to share it to avoid spreading bacteria.

Tried this. I think it's not worth the hype.

I have used Dermarollers and they are an amazing modality to use for infusion, following with the ultrasonic further increases penetration for dramatic results.

It is supposed to be equivalent to fractional laser therapy (but I don't quite think so). It is cheap to purchase the Dermaroller as opposed to a laser. It is mildly painful. It is recommended to use topical anesthetic. I think the results were slightly better than microdermabrasion. The dermaroller is also cheaper than purchasing a microdermabrasion machine. It is simple to use. Minimal side effects, except some facial redness and discomfort. And it does make some difference. It definitely is a good alternative for someone who can't afford a laser.

I looked at Dermarollers prior to purchasing SkinPen. I found that the Dermarollers work better for larger areas such as the legs or stomach. However, the needles do not come straight out of the skin. You would need to be careful of this when using it. They actually come out a 45 degree.

I am considering Dermaroller and I want to know which size is better for product penetration. Thanks a lot for your input!

Before purchasing, make sure using a Dermal roller or pen device is within your scope of practice. If you are looking at one that goes deeper than the epidermis (ie draws any amount of blood) then you would need to determine from the product manufacturer the safety of the product entering the blood stream as this is a possible result. Do you really want product in your bloodstream? Also, working too deeply could result in fine scarring. I use a very shallow roller to help penetrate anesthetic into the lip for cosmetic tattooing, but it only works in the superficial skin tissue - right where I need it to be. Hope this helps!
