I do not have enough experience or a large enough patient base to quantify results for acne. However, most of the acne patients who answer my ad or get directed to my website have been to multiple dermatologists and have tried “everything”. They refuse to try Accutane. The Omnilux Blue/Red protocol of about 8 treatments has been helpful for mild to moderate acne in most. They have clearer skin and less new lesions. The LED heads are adjustable and can be used on the body as well as the face. There is no downtime and no consumables. It is affordable and a great add-on. I also have an Isolaz photopneumatic light source. It is more than twice the purchase price of the Omnilux. I have had good results with it for the more severe cases of acne, with multiple comedones, pustules and cysts. Some of the severe cystic acne seems resistant and really needs Accutane. The suction opens up pores, drains pustules and loosens comedones, while the light lowers the bacterial count and after a month or so decreases new outbreaks. As with all we do, it works better on some than others. I encourage topical Clindamycin and BPO, as well as non-comedogenic cosmetics or creams. Perhaps a practice with a much larger patient base could do split face studies using different light modalities to offer more information to our community than what I offer above.
