Medical Spa Medspa Advertising Marketing > Giving and Getting: Charity Makes Good Sense

My training is ENT and my practice is lasers, injections and other cosmetic procedures. I just wanted to share some advice for cosmetic practitioners in this economy. Give more.

I'm not trying to sound preachy, but in my experience, charity is a great way to reconnect with the reason that we all went in to medicine in the first place - to help people. It also makes good marketing sense, especially for those of us in the cosmetic (i.e. more frivolous) side of medicine.

I donate gift baskets, gift certificates for treatments and products to be auctioned off by charities at their events to raise money for the charity. Over the last year, my practice has donated about $50,000 worth of products and services. We have also brought in charities to partner with us when I give talks to the public. The arrangement there is that we make a donation per person that comes to the lecture and then donate a percentage of the proceeds from procedures booked as a result of the lecture to the charity.

We support the Lynne Cohen Breast and Ovarian Cancer Foundation, The Make A Wish Foundation, CARE, The Leukemia Foundation and many others. It's good publicity and it's a good way to support deserving causes that are suffering in this economy. Its good to do the right thing.

What a great thread and a topic/idea that tends to get neglected in times of a down economy. The Catch 22 is that this is the time where the charities need us the most.

You dont have to give away the farm, just give a little. If we all do our "little" part the world will be a better place.

Good topic.

Dr. Alexander! (love it),

I agree that donating to charities is an excellent idea.
We have been doing that since we opened in 2002.
I will add one more benefit: Name Recognition
People attending these charity functions may not actually bid on or win our donations but our name, Ageless Remedies SouthPark, has become known in Charlotte.
Furthermore, other charities now know we will help them in their fund-raising efforts, resulting in again increased exposure.

Thank you for an important discussion.

Dr Rivkin

Great job on your contribution and donation and for putting the smile on others. People really need it especially in this hard economic time.
