Medical Spa Business Forum > Medispa services in a salon setting

Are there any physicians who are providing medispa services at exisitng salons on a part time basis? This is how I am entering the business and my question is-does anyone have advice as to rent? is it based on a percentage of your sales? Do Stark Laws apply? Is it better to have a standard rent? It's been hard for me to arrive at a number given I just started and want to be fair....because the stylist/owner obvious gives me lots of referrals however, given the cost of insurance, etc., I'm a bit upside down with the costs at the moment. Any advise would be appreciated.

IMHO rent should be based on square footage being used, not on what the % of your business is.
The rent should be a fixed expense, and should be calculated as such in any business plan rather than a fluctuating # based on how much profit you’re bringing in.

Ie: if the salon is 2000 sq feet, and the rent is 5000, and you are using 500 square feet when you use the salon space, then you are using 25% of the space.

While you have indicated you are PT, I would look ahead to the possibility that you or someone you hire might be there FT.

So if we use the example above as our guide, then IMHO, I would pay 25% of the rent ($1250) , and 25% of the utilities, and 25% of other expenses such as garbage pickup, cleaning service, medical waste disposal etc.

I would also encourage you to have lease drawn up and approved by your attorney.
