Medical Spa MD... Looking for some volunteer conference reporters.

Volunteer Conference Reporters

From Jeffrey E. Epstein, MD

We would like to organize a group of “Volunteer Conference Reporters” who are going to various conferences and can report on what they have seen, heard and learned.

For example, I am going to the Harvard Conference in October (Laser & Aesthetic Skin Therapy:  What’s the Truth? 2008).  I will write about one or more of the topics covered at that conference.   After my summary is published, others can read it and learn from it.  We can also discuss it via the blog (the same way we are discussing the DeepFx Webinar Summary).   I am hoping that other readers who are going to this conference will become Volunteers and write about other topics covered at this conference.  This conference is organized by R. Rox Anderson and promises to be excellent (What is the Truth?).

We have a few other notable conferences coming up in the next few months.  In addition to the Harvard Conference in October, we have the Controversies and Conversations in Laser and Cosmetic Surgery:  An Advanced Symposium August 8-10, 2008 in British Columbia , Canada and the Cutera Clinical Forum in Chicago August 15-17, 2008.  There is also an Obagi Conference, November 13-14, 2008 (Ultimate Skin Symposium) in Los Angeles .  Finally, every April the ASLMS has its annual conference which is excellent.  I am hoping we can cover these conferences at a minimum and add others that we feel are top notch!

I have volunteered to be the Conference Reporter Coordinator and Organizer.

If you will be going to any of these conferences and would be willing to write a summary of one or more of the topics covered, please contact me so that we can coordinate our efforts.

Thanks,

Jeffrey E. Epstein, MD

Would you accept volunteers attending to European conferences ?

Dr. Philippe,

Absolutely! Tell us what you know, tell us what you learn, tell us what you think and we will take off from there and all learn from each other.

Hi JEE. I'm presently using lasers at the medical office (7 lasers, only me on them, part time, should be a fool :) ). Discovered medical lasers by accident 3 years ago. Doing laser sessions only (no botox, no peelings ..) I discovered Carboxytherapy also because it was a machine .... and I love machines. This takes me to get interested in changing my medical office to a 1/2 MEDICAL SPA / 1/2 DAY SPA on a small surface (100 M2, approx 300 sq). Therefore , in the next 6 months I will visit all the SPA exhibitions in Europe , mainly France. So I'll be able to write articles on this new emerging concept here ... French Medical Concils are a bit oldish and very scared by those MD who are not following the ancestral way of practicing medicine. We have to make things with extreme care. But things change in the old europe :)

I will be speaking at the IECSC conference in Orlando Oct. 6th 2008. If I have the opportunity to listen to other speakers I will be happy to report about anything great I see. I'd like to invite others to ask what they are hoping learn from my presentation or others. I want to give as much good information and be as helpful as I can be.

Kile,

What is IECSC? What will your presentation be about?

08.13 | Unregistered CommenterJEE

Hi JEE,

The IECSC is the International Esthetic Cosmetic and Spa Conference. I will be speaking a the post conference Medical Spa workshop. I own Blue Water Spa, a medical spa in Raleigh, NC and my talk is about what I've learned in our 5 1/2 years of business. Details about the talk are on our website www.bluewaterspa.com I welcome any suggestions about what physicians or other medspa owners might be interested in hearing about.

Did anyone go to the Cutera Conference? How was it? Anything new and exciting?

Did anyone go to the Controversies conference in British Columbia?
How was it? Anything new and exciting?

I'll be talking about Carboxytherapy in Las Vegas on the 4th or October, at 29th Annual Meeting of the ISDS (www.isdsworld.com). I'll stay there from the 2 to 4th. If you want, i can go to any conference and make a summary (I can record mp3 files and divx video, but looks to be a copyright infringement if we publish on line). Tell me which lecture you want me to go to, I'll try mybest tomake a summary.

Hi Dr. Phillippe,

Write a report on whatever you think we would be most interested in and then we can blog about it. I will make a specific blog thread for your report. Thanks for helping. Let me know when it is ready and we can figure out how to display it. The other media would be great to have as well. Some people might be able to ask for copies from you. I don't think there would be any problems as long as your were not mass publishing and charging. You can contact me off line at Jeff4459@aol.com.

I will be posting summaries of the Harvard Conference with R. Rox Anderson in October as well.

Hi All,

I am a physician in Alberta, Canada. I do quite a lot of minor procedures in my family practice but I was looking for something more interesting. I went to the IAPAM meeting this month in Phoenix.

Both My wife (RN) and I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting which we found very informative and fun. The staff were very helpful, The lecturers highly experienced and covered a lot of ground. They answered a lot of questions I didn't even know I had! We were able to get hands on. The information included a lot of useful take home stuff on dvd.

While I have not been to other aesthetic meetings I have been to many medical ones and this was better.

09.20 | Unregistered CommenterThe_Ductor

Hi Ductor,

What were the three most important things you learned from this conference and what does IAPAM mean?

09.21 | Unregistered CommenterCHMD

IAPAM - International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine - They can be found online. I would value other peoples comments and experiences.

I am a GP, I am not paid by IAPAM or any company so don't shoot me!

I really feel we learnt quite a lot. Whats more it encouraged me to look for more information.

Comments:
A lot of physicians are looking outside of their main practice for something interesting and hopefully lucrative. The experience levels of the attendees was varied from some who already have med spas and are looking to expand, learn more to 'Greenhorns' Like me. I was quite stunned that there was such a varied group, OBGYNS, Ophthalmologist, Radiologist, ER physician a psychiatrist and several GP's. There were also managers, aestheticians, RNs etc. This gave a broad range of interest and lively discussions. Certainly my feeling was it was a ballanced presentation of what can be done, an introduction into various aspects of Botox, fillers, peels and lasers. It was an INTRO & I certainly did not feel they sold it as the complete answer. They also had some heavy hitters including board certified dermatologists talking about uses and dangers of the various treatment modalities. There was extensive information on business and marketing. The pitfalls to watch for and where to go. They did not sell the expensive solutions but included comments on practice web pages etc. Using google and ads sensibly. They were very helpful in suggesting caution and research before shelling out dollars for equipment, full page adds etc. They covered some licencing issues - enough that everyone new they had to check and recheck with the authorities. I came away with a feeling I 'could do it' but it wasn't going to be a walk in the park or something I could retire on in a year or so.

The meeting settled a lot of my own misconceptions about Botox, fillers and IPl's etc It gave me insight into areas I really had not considered such as peels etc. While I was somewhat reassured about doing some of the procedures I certainly did not leave feeling I new everything - Hence why I came to this Blog.

I hope that answers your question.

Having seen a few people 'burnt at the stake' in here. I am not sure whether or not I am looking forward to any replies -

BE GENTLE WITH ME (;-\

I hope there is a Conference in Minnepolis. If there is, I'll be take part and look for Minneapolis Orthodontist topics. It should be full of fun for doctores... I thinks doctors should be take part such this Conference!

Thanks.

Sounds like an introductory conference. You are smart to do you due diligence before "swimming with the sharks".

We are going to a super advanced conference this weekend in Boston with R. Rox Anderson. Laser & Aesthetic Skin Therapy: What's the Truth? 2008. I am planning on doing some "Conference Reporting" and I hear that others will report as well.

Thanks for contributing "The Ductor"!

My recommendation is to go to other conferences before making final decision. The ASLMS Annual Conference is an excellent conference!

We are at R. Rox Anderson's conference at Harvard Medical School entitiled: Laser & Aesthetic Skin Therapy. Any questions for Dr. Anderson and the thought leaders he has assembled?
